CANBERRA Europe Services

CANBERRA Europe Services (CES) is dedicated to providing excellence in instrumentation and health physics related services. A European Network of experienced Customer Service Experts, Nuclear Engineers, Health Physicists, System Engineers, Operators, and Technicians have years of experience working with CANBERRA equipment in a variety of applications. Experts hold PhD or MSc degrees in nuclear related fields, ensuring you of the highest level of competence and professionalism in the health physics field. CES specializes in providing quality services in nuclear instrumentation and measurement activities.

Internal Dosimetry

The NSG specializes in a wide range of internal dosimetry services:

  • Whole Body Counter Calibrations - complete service, using your choice of a variety of phantoms and sources, performed by a Health Physicist. The calibration document provides a complete record and history including NIST source traceability, and compliance with ANSI N13.30.
  • Whole Body Count Data Review - analysis and interpretation of whole body count results are available from CANBERRA's staff of Health Physicists. This service can include performing internal dose assessments to assist customers in reporting the proper numbers to regulatory agencies and facility personnel.

System Startup and Support

CANBERRA customers can take advantage of years of experience from CES to assist in specific system configurations for any customer need. Systems serviced include gamma spectroscopy, alpha spectroscopy, whole body counters, and waste assay systems.

NSG system engineers can assist customers with the initial set-up, configuration, modification and operation of all standard CANBERRA spectroscopy and analysis systems through on-site customized assistance. Assistance could include the set up of analysis parameters, establishing QA/QC programs and routines, and preparing operating procedures.

Field Radiological Measurements
CES has years of experience providing field radiological measurements. Mobile laboratories are available to provide rapid on-site analyses of environmental and facility samples. These services extend to site assessments, decontamination, and decommissioning of any facility. Environmental in situ measurements provide assurance that potentially contaminated sites are ready for release for unrestricted use.

General Health Physics Services

Many other related services are provided by the NSG, including licensing and RSO activities. Program and procedure development for new or existing licensees ensures a top quality radiation safety program in compliance with applicable Federal or State regulations. Emergency medical assistance for contaminated injured personnel is available in conjunction with Radiation Management Consultants. The NSG can also provide assistance with health physics record keeping systems to ensure complete traceability of personnel exposures and radiation work activities.

in situ Characterization Services - ISOCS

Features

  • Cost effective and timely radioactive characterization of the environment, facilities or equipment.
  • Immediate results with professional interpretation and review.
  • Utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and techniques for producing quantitative or qualitative results from numerous and unique configurations.
  • Extensive expertise with in situ instrumentation and measurement techniques.
  • Highly mobile equipment for adapting to all conditions.

Description

ISOCS measurements are useful methods for obtaining valid information regarding radiological contaminants in a variety of settings. In fact, in many cases, they may be the only viable means of measuring radioactive contamination. CANBERRA offers a comprehensive in situ measurement service designed to provide customers complete radiological characterization for a variety of applications.

Contaminants in the environment... in situ measurements allow for large area or volume measurements, thereby reducing discrete sampling requirements.

Contaminants in waste... Waste containers and materials may be assayed in situ, providing valuable data for disposition and disposal. Free Release of equipment and large objects from controlled area’s is economically handles with High Efficiency Ge detectors. Waste can be Free Released in stead of send to costly LLW repositories.

Contaminants in and on structures... in situ measurements can support remedial action activities by providing immediate assessment of decontamination efforts.

Contaminants in systems and components... Components such as pipes, pumps, tanks, etc. may be characterized, enabling the user to identify the source and cause of contamination.

CANBERRA's in situ Characterization Service is ideal for those who require rapid, cost effective and site specific assistance. It will meet the needs of the client by developing site specific efficiencies and libraries for the job at hand. The client is not required to set up or learn how to use the instruments or apply the techniques since CANBERRA will provide a complete service. CANBERRA's experienced spectroscopists will collect and interpret the data without the need of the client dedicating personnel to the task.

CANBERRA's position as the leading supplier of gamma spectroscopy equipment and services provides assurance of reliable results. CANBERRA utilizes its ISOCS calibration software or detector and geometry specific Monte Carlo Neutron-Photon (MCNP) calibration techniques to achieve highly accurate measurements without the need for collecting samples and processing them in laboratory conditions. A comprehensive report detailing and supporting the measurements is provided to document the calibrations and results.

Service

The in situ service meets customer needs by setting up the measurement system to address specific applications and requirements. The CANBERRA ISOCS code has wide spread acceptance and has been validated both internally and by many of its customers. Almost any geometry can be modeled to give accurate results both qualitatively and quantitatively. If required MCNP can be used to supplement these.

CES has developed a service to assist customers with characterization of radiological contamination in situ, using the CANBERRA InSpector gamma spectroscopy system. The service provides the ability to perform high resolution, quantitative gamma spectroscopy in the field. These measurements may save the customer time and money when the application requires rapid assessment, or when conventional sampling and laboratory analyses would be costly if employed. NSG utilizes the CANBERRA MCNP calculation service to develop special geometry efficiencies when needed.
