3.2.2
- Advanced Course: COINCIDENCE SUMMING CORRECTIONS
Reference: E-CSC-07 |
Introduction
Correcting gamma spectroscopy results for coincidence
summing has long time being a difficult task. The coincidence
summing corrections in Genie-2000 allow the laboratory
operator to correct the results for coincidence summing
in an easy and straight forward manner. The coincidence
summing effects are important for all geometries in contact
with the detector, or measured very close to the detector,
and even for large volume geometries at contact.
Purpose
The purpose of the course is to familiarize the user
with the method used for coincidence summing corrections
and the implementation of coincidence summing corrections
in the Genie-2000 analysis software.
Course Content:
To better understand the philosophy and implementation
of the coincidence summing corrections in Genie-2000, the
physics behind the Coincidence Summing is discussed first.
- Difference between random summing and cascade summing
- Performing Peak to Total calibrations
- Using generic Peak To Total calibrations
- Using the geometry composer
- Analyzing
- Interpretation of the results
- Uncertainty estimations
Next, practical examples are entered into the software
to familiarize the user with the use of coincidence summing
correction during analysis
- Creating a peak to total calibration
- Interpretation of the Peak To Total calibration
- Creating the counting geometry using the geometry
composer
- Selecting the correct template
- Parameter input
- Dimensions entry
- Material entry
- Interpretation of the results
- Correcting source based efficiency calibrations for
coincidence summing
