KEDG/HKED Hybrid K-Edge/XRF System
Measures
the uranium and plutonium densities in the presence of fission products
even though concentrations of 1012 Bq/g make standard NDA
measurements impossible - K-Edge:
- Concentration Range: 30 g/L and up
- Accuracy in 1000s as low as 0.3% for concentrations of 100 g/L to 300 g/L - XRF:
- Concentration Range: 0.1 to 50 g/L
- Accuracy better than 1% for 2 g/L Pu solution in one hour - K-Edge only systems available
- Licensed by Canberra
Developed by Dr. Ottmar, Institut für Kemphysik

SGS Segmented Gamma Scanner/Isotopic Station
-
Third generation system evolved from original technology transfer from DOE/LANL in 1977
WM2210 Series - Full quantitative analysis or isotopic ratios for cans to 200 L drums containing uranium and plutonium
- Modular design
- Transmission source module
- Detector module with LN2 Dewar
- Horizontal detector movement to close-couple sample and detector
- Surface dose rate meter
- Manual or automatic rotator platform -
Unique correction for non-uniform density and non-uniform source distribution
Technology transfer from DOE, LANL

Canberra's latest software significantly improves traditional source and density correction techniques
Combined Systems
Glovebox Neutron/Gamma Counter
- Developed for high accuracy measurements of plutonium
- Based on the DOE, LANL, INVS III design with modified clamshell neutron counter that mounts around the drywell of a glovebox and LEGe detector for isotopic measurement
- Provides simultaneous neutron coincidence counting and gamma isotopic analysis
- Used with the HKED system in Euratom's On-Site Laboratory reducing the need for destructive analysis
Euratom/Canberra joint venture development, certified at Karlsrhue

Automated Neutron and Gamma Counting
Integration
of two standard systems: WDAS and Isotopics Station
- Sample first is counted on HPGe system for isotopic ratios
- Then sample is counted with WDAS neutron counter- Results are automatically integrated for total plutonium inventory
- Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) code used for gamma isotopics
- Sample capacity from 70 L (shown) to 200 L drum
Plutonium Canister Input Verification Counter
Designed
for simultaneous passive neutron coincidence counting and gamma
isotopics - Designed to verify the plutonium content in up to 5 cans inside stainless steel canister
- Flat axial counting response over the height of the canister
- Telescope Ge detector _ 12% coax and LEGe detectors in a single cryostat
- Integral load cell platform for weight verification
- Mass range from 4.5 to 18 kg Pu
Joint IAEA/Euratom/Siemens development
Neutron and Gamma Unattended Safeguards System
- Fully automated system for unattended monitoring of Pu in reprocessing and mixed oxide fuel plants
- Combines passive neutron with gamma isotopics for improved accuracy
- Utilizes intelligent front-end acquisition devices for maximum data compression and redundancy
- Central CPU system connected remotely, and used for data analysis, storage and review
- Secure architecture protects system from unauthorized access
- Functionality includes fuel rod scanning and bar code readers for sample identification
Joint development with Euratom/CEA
