ULTRARADIAC BACKGROUND AND INTRODUCTION TO GPS-COM

CANBERRA has marketed the UltraRadiac™ Personal Rate Meter and Electronic Dosimeter for the past eight years. During this time, there have been thousands of devices deployed throughout North America within the First Responder Community including Fire, Hazmat, Police, Emergency Medical Services, First Receivers, and Specialized Security Teams.

The latest accessory available for the UltraRadiac is GPS-COM, which allows the UltraRadiac to communicate wirelessly through RF (Radio Frequency), transmitting the readings of the UltraRadiac to an on-site Central Command Center to the GPS-COM Software which would be monitoring the event from the site. Additionally the exact location of the individual, through GIS, can be pinpointed on a map of the given area. This provides the on-site Command Center with the ability to keep track of the specific team or individual along with their given readings for radioactivity (Dose Rate and alarms and time to dose alarm).

UltraRadiacs are currently used at a variety of high profile events by the local First Responders (Fire, Hazmat, Police, or Event Security). The UltraRadiac typically has its alarms and parameters preset to alarm at specific levels based on Dose Rate (what is happening around you) as well as Dose (what the body absorbs). Previously, individuals or teams that were carrying the UltraRadiac had to radio-in their location and the specific readings of the UltraRadiac to the on-site Command Center, so that they could be tracked. With the addition of GPS-COM, the alarms and parameters can be monitored by the Command Center along with the exact location through GPS-COM Software, while allowing the team or individual to focus on their task: securing a perimeter or a given area at the event.

With the ability to communicate the live readings wirelessly from the UltraRadiac, GPS-COM affords the team or individual the ability to make fast and accurate decisions when time is of the absolute essence.
