SU-476-3 Advanced ISOCS Measurements

Prerequisites:

This course is intended for individuals who possess some prior knowledge of gamma spectroscopy and in situ measurement methodology. It is preferred that students also have prior hands-on experience with in situ measurement hardware and software. Furthermore, it is assumed that students are already familiar with the basic operations of Canberra's Genie-2000, ISOCS, and/or LabSOCS software products. Prior participation in Canberra's SU-474-4 Basic ISOCS Measurements training course is strongly recommended.

Purpose:

The purpose of this course is to provide advanced instruction for users who are already familiar with basic ISOCS techniques, with emphasis on improved ISOCS modeling, accuracy of analysis results, total measurement uncertainty, and equipment deployment for more complex measurement applications.

Description:

This course provides detailed recommendations for use of the more complex ISOCS templates, and for modeling complicated source distributions. Various advanced ISOCS measurement applications will be discussed, including: determination of activity vs. depth in sample material, surface soil activity measurements, subsurface soil activity measurements, measurements of contamination on large area surfaces, measurements of surface contamination on complex objects, direct bioassay measurements (in vivo counting), underwater measurements, and airborne activity measurements. Additional topics include: detector field-of-view, "infinite" source distributions, "massimetric" efficiency calculations, data review, and analysis of ISOCS measurement uncertainties. Numerous practical examples and student exercises will be presented and discussed.
