Description

Neutrons, basis of nuclear reactor operation, are also encountered in fundamental physics research and the nuclear industry.

The Helium-3 neutron detectors are the most sensitive neutron sensors available on the market. Depending on the application, some features are preferred: - for neutron scattering, the fluxes are very low and the detector background becomes a very important feature: strict material selection (low radioactive contamination), use of enameled alumina (excellent electrical insulation, even in damp atmosphere) - for Time-of-Flight experiments, the measurement accuracy is function of the detection thickness (interest of the flat quasi-rectangular patented sections 'P' or 'REC') and time characteristics of the associated amplifier 'ACHP96F).
- for passive neutron measurements physics research, a good high voltage neutron correlated plateau can be obtained with the help of Argon 'A1' type detectors associated with fast amplifiers,
- for active neutron measurements, the analog input blindness (as a result of the generator shooting) can be drastically reduced by mean of specialized amplifiers such as ACHNA98,
- In spent fuel reprocessing plants, the limited access conditions and the harsh environment require in some cases a long distance connection between detector and associated amplifier; current amplifiers and 'C' or 'CS' type detectors are then highly recommended.

In order to comply with these requirements, CANBERRA offers a wide range of models, dimensions, shapes, filling-up, connectors and other technical characteristics.

For important detector quantities (several ten pieces), specific detectors may be designed in accordance with the specific needs.
