Model Calibrator/M Semi-Automatic Calibration and Check Bench
Features
- In order to ensure that the dosimeter (DOSICARD™) is operating correctly, a radiological calibration procedure must be carried out periodically (once a year)
- The calibration standard is the individual dose equivalent Hp(10) whose unit of measurement is the Sievert (Sv)
- The dosimeter is exposed to a beam of radiation for a few minutes with photons having a radiant energy of 662 keV (137Cs)
Description
The Calibrator/M consists of:
- A dosimeter handling and positioning conveyor drawer:
- A test slot allows positioning the dosimeter for exposure to the 137Cs control source.
- A 137Cs source and its lead shield, designed as a collimator:
- Activity of the source of 137Cs - 1.11 MBq (30 µCi).
- The source is placed 3.5 cm (1.4 in.) from the DOSICARD's detector.
- Dose rate - 88 µSv/h (8.8 mrem/hr).
- Precision of the measurement - ±6%.
- Irradiation time of the dosimeter - from four to 15 minutes (specified by the operator).
- An electronic control device allowing:
- An input/output board ensures the control of the drawer as well as the position of the dosimeter test slot. The drawer has three pre-defined positions:
- Loading/Unloading of the DOSICARD (enables the operator to load or unload DOSICARDs into the calibration bench).
- Communication (sets the DOSICARD's parameters before irradiation and analyzes the measurement results).
- Irradiation (the DOSICARD is positioned for exposure to the control source during a length of time defined by the operator).
Note: The dose rate at the lead shield is <0.1 Gy/h (10 rad/h).
