Description
The WM3100 series of passive neutron coincidence counters, based on the successful Waste Drum Assay System (WDAS)1, is designed to perform accurate quantitative assays on neutron emitting nuclides found in Transuranic (TRU) wastes. The WM3100 measures the plutonium content of the waste drum by detecting coincidence neutrons from the spontaneous fission of the even numbered isotopes of plutonium. The standard system configuration provides a 4ð passive neutron detection efficiency of 19% for 240Pu spontaneous fission neutron emitted with in the center of the assay cavity. The WM3100 is designed to assay 208 liter (55 gallon) drums and provide detection levels on the order of approximately 3 mg of 240Pu effective in a 1800 second count time.
