Description

The 2541M LN2 Controller is designed for automatic refill of portable cryostats that are typically used with Ge and Si(Li) Detectors. The fill cycle is scheduled at specific times determined by the user. The fill cycle is terminated by an overflow sensor or by a programmed fill time interval whichever comes first. An alarm sounds if the overflow sensor remains cold after the fill cycle is terminated, which could indicate a frozen (open) solenoid valve. The auxiliary output provides controlled ac power during alarm conditions.

The 2541M is factory programmed for a MACor Big MAC. The user can change the fill time and duration without a lot of expertise in programming. Instructions are provided for complete programming (via the key pad). The program is battery backed for 30 days (using non-rechargeable batteries). It should be kept under power at all times to avoid discharging of the batteries. The 2541M comes with a detachable 3 m(10 ft) sensor cable. The solenoid valve, which has 1/4 in. NPT fittings, comes with a captive 3 m(10 ft) power cord. Unless a LN2 supply tank is purchased with the 2541M, the customer is responsible for connecting the solenoid valve to his container.

The 2541M Controller requires a source of LN2 at a pressure of 34 to 172 kPa gauge (5 to 25 psig). CANBERRA D-160 and D-240 containers or their equivalents are highly recommended. A self-pressurizing withdrawal device (NTD-30/50) with a 30 or 50 liter Dewar can be used but it is not recommended because of marginal capacity and pressure for most applications. The liquid quality must be good at the point of consumption. This means there must be no ice in the liquid and that the supply line must not be lossy (causing excess vaporization).

An overflow container may be required if there is no safe place for the discharge of overflow gas and liquid. WARNING: Malfunctions can result in the entire contents of supply containers being dumped through the system. CANBERRA takes no responsibility for such accidents. The user is responsible for the installation and for the safety measures that are needed in this application.
