Emergency Response Instrumentation

Emergency response organizations require the capability to perform real-time field radiation detection and measurements of possible airborne radioactive releases. CANBERRA provides both fixed and mobile emergency response instrumentation to perform these real-time field measurements.
Typical emergency field radiation detection systems consist of fixed and mobile gamma radiation monitoring units called GARDS (Global Area Radiation Dispersion System) that have a transceiver/receiver, GPS antenna, and a radiation monitoring unit with detectors; a mobile detection system called MOVERS (Mobile Vehicle-based Emergency Radiation Monitoring System), and a central base station which is comprised of a RADACS (Radiological Assessment, Display, and Control System) software package, a computer, and transceiver/receiver unit. In addition are portable, flexible units that are self-contained and self-powered for measuring gamma radiation, storing data, and providing positioning data.
