INTRODUCTION
CANBERRA offers modular Alpha Spectrometry systems which span the needs of the researcher from single-input, manual counting
configurations to multi-input, computer controlled spectrometer arrays. The Model 7401 Alpha Spectrometer, with a suitable PIPS® Detector, is the optimal choice for systems with four inputs or less, providing a complete spectrometer in a double-width NIM module. For systems with larger numbers of inputs, the Alpha Analyst - fully described in Section 1 of this catalog - offers a cost-effective, turnkey
solution.
The Model 7401includes a vacuum chamber large enough to accommodate samples up to 5 cm in diameter, detector bias supply, test pulser, and a vacuum gauge with vacuum/bias interlock. It also includes a built-in preamp/amplifier, discriminator, and a counter/timer to facilitate gross counting. A microprocessor manages the front panel controls, displaying parameters such as counts, elapsed time, detector leakage current, detector bias and chamber pressure. A stainless steel sample holder provides reproducible geometries. The Model 7401 can be interfaced directly to a Multichannel Analyzer's ADC or multiplexed with other inputs through a Mixer/Router.
When interfaced to a computer system, the 7401 is supported by the Genie™ 2000 Alpha Spectroscopy Analysis option and the Genie -ESP Alpha Management System. The Genie 2000 Alpha Analyst software also supports the 7401, but without computer control of gain, HV, and vacuum. For applications requiring reduced recoil contamination, reverse bias and the reduced vacuum are optionally available.
Accessories which are available for alpha spectroscopy systems include vacuum pumps, manifolds, filters, vacuum tubing and pressure regulators.
