Superscreened Cables and Connectors

A key requirement of high performance instrumentation systems is the provision of adequate interference immunity, particularly from earth coupled interference to avoid the generation of unwanted spurious signals. Experience has shown that standard coaxial signal cables are inadequate in dealing with such interference. Arange of cables and connectors has been developed to overcome these problems.

CABLES

A technique called “Superscreening” is used to improve the cable screening by optimizing the braid screen construction and applying an annealed high permeable alloy tape between the braids. Superscreened cables have the order of 1000 to 10 000 times the screening at certain frequencies of standard coaxial cables; see Figure 1.

Figure 1

Screening performance of various cable designs. Surface transfer impedance (Zt ) is a measure of the voltages induced in a screened circuit due to the current flowing in the coaxial cable and is the important parameter in specifying the screening performance of Superscreened cables.

Connectors

Superscreened connectors are available with HNS, HN, N, SHV, BNC and TNC standard mating faces. They are all designed to maintain the superior screening performance of the cable and resist degradation due to aging by virtue of a unique crimped termination.

All cables and connectors are supplied fully tested and available in both large and small quantities.
