Description

Designed for the Application

The Tennelec Series 5 APC is a console-based system designed to screen samples that do not require traditional low background performance. The Series 5 APC is an automatic, lightweight and easy to operate system making it perfect for applications that require only a basic smear counter but still have large throughput needs. The added expense of a low background system is eliminated in the Series 5 APC making it an ideally affordable solution for the laboratory while aiding in the prevention of contamination of more sensitive instrumentation. Since the S 5 APC is offered in several different models with an assortment of different detectors, finding one to fit your needs is easy. Likewise, the Series 5 APC has the same user interface across all models eliminating the learning curve when using a combination of Series 5 console based units.

Configured to Meet Your Needs

The Series 5 APC is factory configured with different detectors for specific counting requirements. A gas flow version is available in 5.7 cm (2.25 in.) or 3.2 cm (1.25 in.) models and provides the same alpha/beta counting modes as the other Series 5 gas flow systems: alpha only, alpha/beta simultaneous, and alpha-then-beta modes. The Zinc Sulfide (ZnS) scintillation detector is available for applications that require alpha only counting. A Geiger Muller (GM) detector is available for those who have gross counting needs. Since the ZnS and GM models do not require counting gas, they are advantageous for applications where gas is not readily available.

Time Proven Reliability

The sample changer of the Tennelec Series 5 family is time and field proven. The highly reliable design of the automated sample changer transports and counts samples day after day providing worry free operation.

Mini-Gas Stat

The Series 5 APC incorporates a microprocessor controlled gas monitoring and control system for gas flow detector models called Mini Gas Stat. Mini Gas Stat eliminates the need to adjust manual flow meters. The Series 5 APC hardware senses when the system is not counting samples, and automatically reduces the gas flow rate to a low quiescent flow to maintain detector gas quality. This prevents atmospheric impurities from diffusing into the detector and causing questionable results. When the user starts a count, Mini Gas Stat automatically purges the detector and resets the flow rate to normal.

Mini Gas Stat effectively increases the useful life of the gas supply, thereby reducing the frequency of instrument reverification, saving time and improving the quality of counting data.

Stat Count

How many times have rush samples come into the laboratory only to interrupt the current samples counting? No electronic record is generated showing that a batch was interrupted. Using Stat Count, the user can now interrupt samples the automatic way. Just choose a group plate, load the samples, select Stat Count and walk away. When the rush samples are complete, the instrument will return to the interrupted sample and resume counting. The interruption is documented on the report with a date and time showing a routine group was interrupted.

Multiple Data Output Modes

The Series 5 APC can send data directly to a printer, serial port, or Flash Card, separately or simultaneously. Data can be transmitted as each sample is counted in line by line mode or when a group of samples is completed. Combined with the Stat Count feature, line by line output to a printer allows for immediate documentation of priority sample activity.

Quick Set-up with LB-Link

Using a specially designed PC application called LB-Link, procedures, reports, printer set-up, source entry, security set-up and much more can now be done in the convenience of your office through a PC. Using the Flash Card feature of the S5 APC, simply save the file structure of the counting unit to the Flash Card via a menu option. Insert the Flash card into the PC and launch LB-Link. The simple and easy to use interface will allow quick and easy set-up of all parameters and editing if necessary. When complete, simply download the information from the FlashCard to one or multiple instruments, and you are up and running with your customized set-up parameters.
