Description

SYRENA is a stand-alone, portable beacon designed to detect and locate various radioactive nuclear materials or sources of gamma radiation.

The device is extremely easy to use, even for non-specialized personnel.

The unit can be installed into a fixed location (monitoring of pedestrians, luggage on a conveyor belt at the airport, vehicles at a motorway toll booth, at the exit of a hospital or nuclear site, at the entrance to a waste site or a scrapyard), hand-held (monitoring of packages in a truck, a storage area or a postal sorting office) or attached to a vehicle ("on-the move" monitoring of vehicles on the road).

The device consists of a compact metal box, with a handle, which encases the highly sensitive detector (plastic scintillation detector), the photomultiplier, the amplification and processing electronics and a battery.

The powerful visual and audible alarms are triggered when an adjustable threshold is exceeded. A back-lit graphic liquid crystal display gives the results of the measurement.

The device is very robust and can be used in extreme conditions, in particular for monitoring vehicles moving at high speed.
