Description
The Model 480201 VMS Nuclide Identification Software is available for use with the DEC VAX- and Alpha CPU-based Genie Family Systems.
The nuclide identification software includes programs which allow the user to compute the activities or detection limits of nuclides in a specified nuclide library and compute and print quantitative nuclide identification reports. For each nuclide report generated, the software reads data from a user-supplied detector efficiency table and nuclide library.
All software is written in FORTRAN as a modular series of programs. The user can add or substitute special processing algorithms for the algorithms supplied. The following is a brief description of the nuclide identification programs:
NUCLIDE IDENTIFICATION (NID)
NID compares the peak search results with the information in the nuclide library and tentatively associates peaks with nuclides. It then calculates nuclide activities based on each energy line which was associated with each nuclide. Identification of a nuclide is subject to three tests: the energy tolerance test, the abundance limit test and the half-life test. A full parent decay correction is performed, including decay during sample deposition (filter exposure), decay from sample date to the start of acquisition and decay during acquisition. An optional correction for varying dead time during acquisition is also available. NID/MANUAL permits interactively performing an NID analysis, changing the identification status of nuclides and editing the weighted mean activity.
INTERFERENCE CORRECTION (INTERF)
INTERF calculates corrections to nuclide activities for energy lines having contributions from more than one nuclide. The corrections are performed one nuclide at a time, using an interfering nuclide and an interfered nuclide. These interferences can be entered manually or automatically from an interference list maintained by the ILE editor and usually stored in the nuclide library file. Interference can also be computed automatically based on information contained in the library for Nuclide ID.
WEIGHTED MEAN ACTIVITY CALCULATION (WTMEAN)
WTMEAN calculates the weighted-mean activity for any multi-line nuclides which have been identified by the NID process.
NUCLIDE EQUIVALENCE CALCULATION (NCLEQU)
NCLEQU calculates the dose equivalent activities for isotopes of a single element or series of elements. Dose equivalency for a nuclide is defined as the activity of the reference nuclide which would result in the same dose. A common example is to calculate the 131I dose equivalencies for the other iodine isotopes such as 132I, 133I, 134I and 135I, where 131I is the reference nuclide.
AVERAGE ENERGY CALCULATION (EBAR)
EBAR calculates an average energy per disintegration for the nuclides which have been identified by the NID process in one or more spectra.
DERIVED AIR CONCENTRATION (%DAC)
%DAC calculates the air concentration and %DAC based on air sampling times. DAC values are from user modifiable nuclide libraries. 10CFR20 DAC values are supplied in the standard Genie nuclide libraries.
MINIMUM DETECTABLE ACTIVITY CALCULATION
(MINACT) MINACT calculates the minimum detectable activity (MDA) for all unidentified nuclides. MINACT/SETTIME computes the preset live time required to reach a specified MDA for one or more nuclides and is used in automatic counting procedures to ensure samples are counted long enough to satisfy required MDAs for specified nuclides.
