Advanced NRRPT Examination Review

Prerequisites: A thorough understanding of the fundamentals of radiation protection through previous formal coursework or on-the-job experience.

Purpose: This course is essentially the second week of HP-603-10 and is designed for those students who are very comfortable with the fundamentals and would prefer to concentrate on core aspects of the exam during week two. We strongly encourage the student to take HP-603-10 whenever possible, because a review of the fundamentals is a good refresher and also makes Week II much easier to absorb. Basic concepts are briefly reviewed, while the emphasis is on instrumentation, regulations, counting statistics and facilities such as accelerators, x-ray machines and medical uses. The student is provided with a practical exam of typical exam questions.

Description:
The course content is similar to HP-603-10, only less time is spent on the fundamentals and more time is spent on advanced and obscure topics.

Course Content:

  • Health physics procedures and practices
  • Exam taking techniques
  • Counting statistics
  • Detector applications
  • 10CFR20 changes
  • Radiation protection standards
  • Detector theory
  • Facilities and sources
    • (Medical, accelerators, radiography, x-ray, etc.)
