Introduction to VMS Concepts and Digital Command Language Course

Prerequisites: None.

Purpose: This course is an introduction to the VMS operating system and the use of basic system DCL commands. It is intended for individuals who use Genie-VMS software products and want to fulfill the prerequisites for other Canberra courses. A special two-day version of this course is available when held in conjunction with another three-day course.

Description:
This course provides students with the skills necessary to perform basic tasks on a VMS system using Digital Command Language (DCL). The course introduces the student to the use of common system commands, DCL symbols and logical names. The concepts of command procedures and file protections are also discussed. The students will be introduced to the EVE/TPU and EDT text editors.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to, use DCL symbols to tailor system commands; use logical names to simplify directory and file access and re-direct process I/O; copy, delete, purge, rename, type or print files; create and manage directory trees; use the EVE/TPU and EDT text editors to create/edit text files; and write simple command procedures to perform basic tasks.
