Training and Technical Services

For on-site courses, the customer must provide the facilities and all required equipment. Equipment rental is subject to availability (see Equipment Rental, next page, for details). CANBERRA reserves the right to limit the class size based on the available equipment configuration. The class size is also subject to the instructor’s approval.

General Information
CANBERRA Training

CANBERRA maintains a Training and Technical Services Department that is assigned the mission of providing excellence in software and hardware support, and customer training. A staff of Engineers, Scientists, and Health Physicists ensure that CANBERRA customers receive everything they need to effectively use their equipment from the date of final site acceptance.

Professionally prepared and delivered, CANBERRA training significantly reduces startup time while providing an in-depth understanding of the system functions. Annual requalification training keeps experienced users up-to-date on the current versions and changes to the software since the last distribution.

On-site consulting is available for system customization, and assistance with installation and maintenance of new distributions, as well as site-specific procedure development.

CANBERRA is proud to be the only nuclear equipment manufacturer with a full time Training and Technical Services group, dedicated to serving our customers after the sale.

Facilities / Materials Required

CANBERRA provides the facilities and all required material for in-house courses. The training facilities areas are listed below:

  • CANBERRA - 800 Research Parkway - Meriden, CT 06450
  • CANBERRA - 107 Union Valley Road - Oak Ridge, TN 37829
  • CANBERRA - 227 Gateway Drive - Aiken, SC 29803
Services and Accommodations

CANBERRA provides all of the equipment required for courses held at our facilities. In addition, we conduct informal tours of our factory to better acquaint the student with CANBERRA, its personnel, and available services. CANBERRA sends information to pre-registered students regarding the local area, travel, and living accommodations. The student is responsible for the hotel, transportation, and associated living expenses. All travel arrangements are the responsibility of the student. Upon request, we would be pleased to assist you as you make your reservations.

Schedules and Fees

A schedule of in-house courses and corresponding prices is listed here. This schedule of courses and fees is expected to prevail through December 31, 2007. However, CANBERRA reserves the right to make changes at any time. The fees in the schedule do not include the student's travel and living expenses.

In addition to the regularly scheduled courses, we frequently schedule “out-of-sequence” courses if there is sufficient interest. Current information on the dates and fees for all courses may be obtained from the Department. If you have special requirements that are not accommodated by our published schedule, please do not hesitate to contact us

Registration Process
  1. To begin the process of registering for any of the courses described in this catalog, please call the Department directly at (800) 255-6370. Once your call is received, your name will be added to the course interest list and the Department will send you an Acknowledgment Package. This package consists of an acknowledgment, course outline, confirmation form, and hotel information.
  2. To reserve a seat in a course, the confirmation form must be completed and mailed or FAXed back to the Department at least one month prior to the start of the course. Space is reserved for registered students on a first-come, first-served basis, as determined by the receipt of either the signed confirmation form or a purchase order. If the class has already been filled, you will have the option of reserving a seat in the next scheduled class.

Payment Terms

Either full payment or a purchase order must be received three weeks prior to the start of the desired class, unless special arrangements are made. All purchase orders are invoiced “Net 30 Days”. All course fees must be remitted in U.S. funds, and are subject to taxes where applicable. For your convenience, MasterCard and VISA are accepted.

In-House Fees

The per student tuition is listed on the training schedule at the end of this catalog. As previously stated, student travel and living expenses are the responsibility of the purchaser.

On-Site Fees

Due to the variability of course content, site-specifics, and travel requirements, fees for conducting an on-site course are quoted upon request. In addition to the course fee, the instructor’s expenses will be charged to the purchaser. The Department will be pleased to provide a quotation for a course designed to meet your individual needs.

Equipment Rental

CANBERRA can rent various equipment (such as terminals or complete systems) for on-site training courses. The cost is based on the equipment configuration required. The rental cost includes shipping, insurance, installation, and removal by a CANBERRA Field Service Representative. CANBERRA reserves the right to limit the class size to the available equipment configuration.

A CANBERRA Field Service engineer may require access to your training room at least one week prior to the start of the first class. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that the training room provided for the system installation is free from any type of contamination (such as corrosive fluids or construction dust) that could hinder the operation or cause failure of the rental equipment. Adequate ventilation, electrical outlets, power extension cords, and power capacity must be readily available for the rented system configuration. CANBERRA reserves the right to inspect and approve your training room prior to shipment or installation of the rental equipment.

Cancellations and Refunds
CANBERRA reserves the right to cancel in-house courses which have a lack of sufficient enrollment three weeks prior to the beginning of the course. A full refund is provided for any advanced fees paid to CANBERRA for a cancelled course. We suggest that you confirm the status of a course with the Training and Technical Services Department before making final travel arrangements.

In-House Cancellations

Student withdrawal from any in-house course within three weeks of the start of class is subject to a 40% cancellation fee. Withdrawal notification must be in writing and be received prior to the three week limit for full fee reimbursement. If you must cancel your reservation, please call the Department, regardless of how close it is to the start date. Because students are sometimes placed on waiting lists, early notification may enable us to fill your slot and waive the cancellation fee.

A refund will not be granted if student withdrawal occurs during the course presentation. The failure of the student to attend the course, without prior written notification, is interpreted as an unauthorized student withdrawal and is subject to full payment of fees.

On-Site Cancellation

If CANBERRA cancels the class, the customer is not subject to any cancellation fees. Cancellation by the customer must be received in writing one month prior to the start of the first class to avoid any cancellation fees.

On-site classes cancelled within one month of the start of the first class are subject to a 40% cancellation fee (including equipment rental). In addition, the customer is held liable for all expenses incurred by CANBERRA due to the cancellation, including, but not limited to:

  • Instructor’s airline tickets, lodging, and meals;
  • Shipping charges for rental equipment, or class materials, in transit, or already on site;
  • Field Service expenses, such as transportation, lodging, and meals incurred for
    • training room examination/approval;
    • installation and removal of rental equipment;
  • Preparation of site-specific course materials.
Number of Students, Additional On-Site Students, or Auditors

The number of students for on-site courses must be agreed upon at the time the purchase order is submitted. CANBERRA does not distinguish between auditors and students. Additional students who are not provided for in the original purchase order will not be admitted unless an additional purchase order or check is provided before class begins. The instructor has the right to limit the class size to correspond to the available equipment configuration, which is typically a maximum of two students per system terminal, or as specified on a purchase order.

Documentation and Copyright Policies

The printed student and course presentation materials are copyrighted. Unauthorized reproduction of these materials is strictly forbidden. The content of the instructor presentations are proprietary. Consequently, the audio or visual recording of any part of the instructor presentations is also strictly forbidden.

Accreditation

In recognition of successful course completion, the Department awards a Certificate of Achievement. A final written examination can be given, upon request. The fee for an examination is dependent upon the course. Please contact the Department for details.

Class Time
Classes start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. daily. Friday classes start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 p.m. (to allow students to make airline connections). Certain classes may start earlier or end later. On-site course times can be modified, subject to prior agreement between the instructor and the customer.
Site-Specific Courses
CANBERRA can provide site-specific versions of standard courses. Most courses are somewhat flexible in terms of course content, and are readily customized. To assist you in planning a site-specific course, the Department will send you a course outline so that you may select the topics which are of interest to you. Our staff will work with you to ensure your training requirements are met. An estimate of the amount of time necessary to prepare a specialized course will be specified in a quotation for the site-specific training.

All course modifications are performed at $125 per hour and include the development of site-specific training documentation. All customer-requested modifications are subject to approval by the Department. Upon acceptance of the course outline and the issuance of a purchase order, relevant documentation, student handouts, and instructor presentation materials are prepared for the course. Note that all customized site-specific course materials remain the property of CANBERRA, unless otherwise specified.

To inquire about site-specific versions of these courses, contact the Department at (800) 255-6370.

Waiver of Prerequisites>
CANBERRA reserves the right to determine if a student meets the prerequisites for a course. This ensures that the student is prepared to fully participate in the class. To attend a course without meeting the prerequisites, the student must sign a “waiver of prerequisite” form and return it with the confirmation form.
Training Services Contracts
Course packages are available in conjunction with hardware and software service contracts. Contract training services are available at discounted fees. Contact the Department for details. >
Explanation of Course Numbers
The course numbers can be divided into three distinct sections: a two letter code, a unique number, and the number of days. An example of this format is shown here:
Explanation of Course Numbers

HP-602-5 is a Health Physics theory course that is 5 days in duration. The course is number 602. The description may be found in the course catalog.

Number of Days
The number of days shown are variable if depicted by an “X”. Site-specific versions of some courses can vary in length with the approval of the Department. Where possible, the default number of days is shown. Courses which are variable in duration usually mention that as part of their description in this catalog.
Course Types
The course types categorize the courses into groups based on their subject area or application. The following table correlates the course types and categories:

AM Application Management (software application management)
HM Hardware Maintenance
HP Health Physics (health physics theory)
HS HIS-20
SA Software Application
SP Spectroscopy (spectroscopy theory)
SU System User (system operational training)
